SBC is the development and management authority for the Brisbane South Bank precinct. The precinct includes the South Bank Plaza, restaurants, beach, carpark, parklands and Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. SBC has day-to-day responsibility for overseeing the precinct’s operations, maintenance, security, events and commercial assets.
SBC is committed to protecting your privacy and manages your personal information in accordance with the Queensland Privacy Principles (QPPs) and the other obligations contained in the Information Privacy Act 2009 (the IP Act).

SBC collects personal information by various methods including through face-to-face meetings, telephone calls, hard copy forms, web-based forms, emails, CCTV, photographs, web analytics, social media, subscription services, mailing lists and surveys.
Personal information must be collected by lawful and fair means, so when we collect personal information directly from a person, we will usually take steps to make them aware of the circumstances of the collection. Where practicable, we will ask the person for their consent before collecting their personal information from a third party.

We understand our obligations in relation to the disclosure of personal information out of Australia. Ordinarily, we will not disclose personal information overseas unless authorised under the IP Act. We also take steps to be satisfied that our service providers have appropriate controls to protect your personal information and that they only use personal information for purposes we authorise.
However, if people communicate with us through services such as Facebook or Twitter or through email marketing or ticketing platforms, the provider and its partners may collect and hold the personal information overseas. In those cases, the privacy policies of those providers regulate how the personal information is managed.
There may be times when people prefer to interact with SBC without using their real identity. In most cases, we will need a name and other personal information to properly deal with a matter or to provide a service. However, where practicable, we will give people the option to interact with us anonymously or by using a pseudonym.
SBC holds personal information securely and takes reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Personal information contained in our records is subject to the requirements of the Public Records Act 2023, the General Retention and Disposal Schedule, and any other applicable Record Keeping Standards issued by the Queensland State Archivist.
Physical documents are held on site on secure floors or at secure offsite storage. Personal information held in electronic format is held on servers that are either on-premises or in tenancies in the cloud, usually located in Australia. SBC retains effective control over personal information held on cloud tenancies, and the information is managed in accordance with legislative obligations and relevant contractual terms and conditions.
If we do hold personal information that we no longer need, and we are not required to retain it, we will take reasonable steps to destroy the information or to ensure the information is de-identified.
The SBC collects information using our camera surveillance systems operating in the South Bank precinct and public car parks. Our camera surveillance system is an essential part of providing for the safety of the public and for the security of the precinct generally. The information captured may include personal information which is retained for approximately 90 days. Requests from the public for access to CCTV are managed through the RTI process.
People have the right to ask for access to personal information the SBC holds about them. Certain types of information may be available administratively or where that is not appropriate, by formal RTI application.
People also have a right to ask us to correct personal information we hold about them if they believe the information is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. They may ask for it to be amended administratively, or where that is not appropriate, by formal application under the RTI Act.
